DEATH NOTICE
DUPUIS, Leonard (June 21, 1958—January 24, 2015)
A grand raconteur and country gentleman, Len died unexpectedly on January 24, 2015 at his beloved Hillsview Farm home in rural Eastern Ontario. Len was an only child, predeceased by his loving parents, Déas Dupuis and Muriel Villeneuve. He was deeply loved by his parents, grandparents and extended family, and Len spent a happy childhood running in the fields and going to school in rural Quebec between Grenville and Lachute. He loved country life, great stories (heavily embellished of course), collecting antiques — especially oil lamps — and spending time with an extensive network of relatives and friends. He cherished both his Anglo and Franco heritages, and like the Ottawa River that was always nearby in his life, he moved easily between the two. Len took no prisoners, and was a great friend and generous host who loved to entertain over big dinners and hours of engaging conversation. He was enjoying an early retirement and was setting himself up to sell antiques in the next phase of his life after a very successful career with the federal government that took him around the world. Len is survived by many cousins and good friends.
Family and friends are invited to Berthiaume Family Funeral Home, 416, McGill Street, Hawkesbury, Ontario K6A 1R2 (877) 632-8511 on Friday February 6, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and also on Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 9:00 a.m.
We will mark his life with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church in Hawkesbury, Ontario on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at 11:00 a.m.
All are invited to gather together for storytelling and a light lunch at the Community Centre in Grenville, Québec, after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice in Len’s memory will be greatly appreciated.
Condolences may be conveyed by fax at (613) 632-1065 or visit our Web Site www.salonfuneraireberthiaume.com

I was terribly saddened to read about Len's recent passing. I knew Len through the antiques business as well as his time as in instructor at a community college in Ottawa. Len was such a kind and caring person. I enjoyed our brief encounters at antique shows and always looked forward to having a visit with him. He made me happy with his keen sense of humour. He will really be sadly missed by me. Rest in Peace, Len. Pat Orme

My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Len . It was a pleasure working, laughing and even sometimes complaining with him, he was a kind man with a huge heart. Rest in peace my dear friend and may antique oil lamps still light your way. (By the way if you run into an unusual teapot or two save them for me). Fondly remembered always. Rose Reilly

My wife and I were devastated to learn of the passing of Leonard. He had a profound impact on our lives. We took his courses on Antiques & Collectibles at Algonquin College back in the early 2000's. This led to our decision to collect pressed glass in our retirement until we ran out of room in our home. We were privileged to spend an evening at Leonard's home in Wendover among his treasures. We helped him at the Appraisal Show at the Billings Estate where he could identify the most obscure object, delighting their owner. I am reminded of him every time I pick up one of our celery vases. He was a generous man and we will remember him forever. Anna and Barry Hemmings, Ottawa. 613-731-3231

To the family of Len, I offer my deepest sympathy. Len was a very nice person, always laughing and talking to us about his antiques every time he came to the Vieux Château Restaurant. He promises me home made relish- I'm still waiting for it. I'll take a rain-check Len. Rest in peace. Sincerely, Aline Lahaie-Davidson

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Leonard's untimely death. He and his parents were dear friends of our family, and especially with our late mother Catharine who appreciated their kindness and support. While I didn't see Leonard often, and not recently, he was always jovial and engaging whenever we did meet. He was a great talker and even better listener. Please accept my deepest condolences and prayers on your loss.
