DEATH NOTICE
Leonie Radford (1929-2021):
Long-time Hawkesbury resident, Leonie Radford (92 years) passed away peacefully on September 4th at her residence of Glen Stor Dun Lodge in Cornwall, Ontario, with family by her side. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert Radford, of 71 years. Beyond the sadness of saying good-bye to our beautiful Leonie, is the comfort of believing that she and her 'true love' Albert are reunited once again.
She will be deeply missed by her five children: Shirley, Linda, Judy (Robert Trowbridge), Darrell (Leslie Cole) and Joyce (Ted King (deceased)). She has been a loving grandma to Mark, Dylan, Harmony, Taylor, Janick, Anne-Marie, Maxime, Tanya, Lindsay, Rachel, Leonie and Emma as well as a great grandma to Marc-André, Tristan, Dastan, Kai, Kaden, and Wyatt. Most recently she became a great-great grandma to Jackson. Witnessing the continual growth of her family was a very gratifying part of Leonie's long life - she was a skilled swaddler of all the babes and a lover of cuddles.
Born in 1929 to Virginia and Emile Sarrazin of Alfred Ontario, Leonie leaves behind her brother Raymond and is predeceased by her sisters Lucienne and Laurette and brothers Maurice, and Leo. Her Radford in-laws, Bill (Corrine), Helen (Paul), George (Pauline), Walter (Lucille) were important in her family life. Many well-loved nieces and nephews also remained close to Leonie and Albert over the years.
We her family have been blessed to know Leonie. Elegant and kind, she was also brave and determined in her life. She learned to swim well into her 50’s and she reclaimed her French Canadian name in her midlife, resuming Leonie over that of Leona. She was a gardener extraordinaire who could produce huge bounty from little patches of earth – a green thumbed lady. Her love of all pink things and flowers remains memorable to many. Leonie may also be remembered by some as the manager of Hawkesbury’s Sears catalogue office, where she worked for 29 years. She was meticulous in her work and proud of a job well done. She also made balancing family life and a career look easy. She hosted large and lively ‘family get togethers’ in her many beautiful homes, always with enthusiasm and celebration. Leonie is remembered for her beautiful smile, gentle manner and loving ways.
In Leonie's last years, her eldest daughter Shirley and the staff of Glen Stor Dun Lodge provided great care and attention to Leonie's needs. We are grateful for the support of all the staff at the Lodge as they recognized the importance of Leonie's well-groomed appearance, her daily wearing of pearls, as well as her enjoyment of regular family 'sing alongs' on Zoom. We all have fond memories of this time with our mother because of your kindness and dedication.
Friends and family are invited to Berthiaume Family Funeral Home 416, McGill Street, Hawkesbury, Ontario (877) 632-8511, on Saturday, September 11th, 2021 starting at 12 p.m.
A funeral service will follow in the funeral home’s outdoor chapel at 1:00 pm.
Donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 201-1599 rue Hurontario, Mississauga, Ontario, L5G 4S1, in lieu of flowers is appreciated by Leonie’s family. Leonie had a life-long battle with kidney health issues due to an anomaly in her physiology. While she thankfully overcame these medical issues, it was forever a critical health concern during her lifetime.

I have so many memories of this elegant lady. When she came to Kilmar, I was just a little girl, and I can remember how graceful and stylish she was. Years later we connected at Holy Trinity Church in Hawkesbury. She always asked about all the family, and both her and your father were faithful attendees. It is so hard to lose a parent, but you have so many wonderful memories of this lady and may they help you through this difficult time. RIP Leonie.
