Alex Papanagiotis, of Hawkesbury and originally from Greece, passed away on June 5, 2026, at the age of 80.

Founder and proud owner of Restaurant L’Escale in Hawkesbury, Alex acquired the establishment in 1979 and officially opened it in 1980, following extensive renovations. For more than 46 years, he dedicated his life to his restaurant, working tirelessly to offer his customers a warm welcome, attentive service, and quality cuisine. His dedication, generosity, and passion for his craft left a lasting mark on the community and on everyone who knew him.

He was the beloved father of Bill, Andrew, and Maria (Guy);
the adored grandfather of Liam-Nehemias, Melia, Alexya, and Loukas;

the dear brother of Froso and Eleni.

He is also survived by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces, as well as many friends.

The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the staff at Prescott-Russell Residence and Hawkesbury General Hospital for the excellent care, dedication, and compassion they showed him.

The family invites family and friends to the Berthiaume Family Funeral Home, 416 McGill Street, Hawkesbury, Ontario, on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel
at 2:00 p.m.
